Can I really get a paternity test at Walgreens?

If there is some doubt regarding the paternity of your child, you have likely spent a lot of time considering your options. Whether you are the father or the mother of the child, you may wish to prove who the biological father is once and for all. Unfortunately, DNA tests are typically very expensive and many parents are seeking cheaper solutions. Because of this, many have turned to Walgreens.

On the Walgreens website there is, in fact, a DNA paternity test for just $14.99 at the time of writing this article. If you are concerned about privacy, a test that you can order online and take at home may provide a good solution. Usually, the kit will ask for a cheek swab of the father and the child. If the mother’s maternity is also in question, there may be a third swab for her to use.

However, there is one caveat. This is only the cost of the kit itself. Once you have completed the test, you must mail it to a lab. There may be an additional fee for the cost of analyzing the DNA, but Walgreens does not currently state how much that is on the webpage. Some labs offer tests that are specifically used for court cases, but Walgreens does not specify whether or not this is part of the test they provide or if it requires a different procedure.

An at-home paternity test may provide you with the confirmation you have been longing for. However, it could also deliver heartbreaking news. Because of this, it is important for parents to consider whether or not they want to know the truth and how that will affect their bond with a child who may have already come to see them as a permanent fixture in their life.

This article provides information on the Walgreens at-home paternity test. It should not be misconstrued as or used in place of legal or medical advice.
