After graduating from Drake University Law School in 1977, Susan Butler began her legal career as a trial attorney with an insurance defense firm in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1979, Susan returned to her home in Central Illinois and became one of the first female trial attorneys to practice in the 10th Judicial Circuit of Illinois.
After working as a partner in a local law firm for several years, Susan achieved a personal goal to practice divorce and family law exclusively as a solo practitioner. In 1985, the Law Office of Susan H. Butler was opened in Morton, Illinois. That firm is the predecessor of Butler Giraudo & Meister, P.C.
In 2010, Kelly Giraudo graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Law and joined the firm as an associate attorney, bringing with her a passion for family law. Susan and Kelly formed a partnership, and in 2012, Tami Meister, a John Marshall Law School graduate who had practiced with a Chicago firm and in the Tazewell County State’s Attorney’s office, joined them as an associate attorney.
In 2015, the three attorneys officially formed the firm known as Butler, Giraudo & Meister, P.C., and a second office was opened in Peoria, Illinois. Kayla M. Hickey, who, like Susan, gained her first legal experience working for an insurance defense firm, joined the firm in 2020 as an associate attorney, and Kayla became partner in the firm in 2024. Gabrielle Cunningham joined the firm in 2022, and she has a wealth of experience in all areas of Family and Divorce Law.

We have two locations to serve you.
Our law office is conveniently located in Morton, across the Illinois River from Peoria. We are eight minutes from Peoria County courthouse and 15 minutes from the Tazewell County courthouse, easily accessible to Interstates 74, 474, and 155. We are located at 100 South Main Street, at the corner of Main and Jefferson Streets in Morton. Behind the office building is our parking lot which our clients use free of charge.
Our other law office is located in the Janssen Building in downtown Peoria, immediately across from the Peoria County courthouse. If you choose to use the plentiful on-street parking that is available, please walk in from the Jefferson Street side. Our address is 110 SW Jefferson Avenue, Suite 410. Or you may use the Niagara Parking deck, entering from the corner of SW Adams Street and Main Street. The elevators will quickly take you to the 4th Floor.
